Google Pulls the Plug on  Google Business Websites

If you’re one of the savvy business owners who utilized Google Business Profile to create your website, we have important news for you. In March 2024, Google will be flipping the switch on websites created through Google Business Profiles. What does this mean for you? Let’s break it down.

What are Google Business Profile Websites?

Google Business Profile Websites are basic websites powered by the information listed on your Business Profile. They’ve served as a convenient way for businesses to establish an online presence quickly and easily.

Below is an example of a Google Business website.

The Countdown Begins: Changes Coming in March 2024

Come March 2024, these websites will cease to exist. Instead, visitors will be automatically redirected to your Business Profile page. This redirection will remain in place until June 10, 2024.

What You Need to Know

Here are some essential tips to navigate this transition smoothly:

  1. Update Your Business Profile: Domains ending with “.business.site” and “.negocio.site” will be removed from your Business Profile’s website field. It’s crucial to update your profile with a new website URL to ensure your online presence remains intact.
  2. No Impact on Your Business Profile: Rest assured, your Business Profile itself will remain unaffected by this change. Customers will still be able to find all the essential information about your business there.
  3. Act Fast: Once the switch happens in March, visitors attempting to access your old website will be redirected to your Business Profile. However, this redirection is temporary, lasting only until June 10, 2024. After that, they’ll encounter a “page not found” error. Be proactive and consider creating a new website using alternative tools to maintain your online presence beyond this date.

Options for Creating a New Website

If you’re in need of a new website, there are plenty of user-friendly site builders available, including:

– Wix

– Squarespace

– GoDaddy

– Google Sites

– Shopify

– Durable

– Weebly

– Strikingly

– WordPress

Once you’ve set up your new website, don’t forget to update your Business Profile and your social media pages with the new URL.

Managing Your Ads Campaign

If your Ads campaign is linked to your Google Business Profile website, ensure to update your ads with the new website URL before March 1, 2024. Alternatively, consider pausing your campaigns until the transition is complete.

Third-Party Domains

If you’re using a custom domain name that you purchases through a domain provider like Go Daddy to forward traffic to your Google Business Profile website, remember that this redirection will also cease on June 10, 2024. Take action by redirecting your domain to your new website before this date.

Act Now Before the March Deadline

Change can be unsettling, it also presents an opportunity for growth. By proactively updating your online presence, you can continue to showcase your business effectively to your customers. Stay ahead of the curve, and embrace the evolution of your digital presence.
