Today, Instagram announced a host of new features aimed at making your messaging experience on Instagram even more seamless, organized, enjoyable, and personalized. Let’s check out the latest upgrades to the platform.

Edit Your Instagram Messages

We’ve all been there – a pesky typo or a message that just didn’t come out right. Fear not, as now you can edit your messages within a 15-minute window after sending them. Simply press and hold on the sent message, choose “edit” from the dropdown menu, and make the necessary changes. It’s that simple!

Pin Chats to Top of Inbox

For those conversations that matter most to you, whether it’s with your closest friends or a new potential client, you can now pin up to three group or one-on-one chats to the top of your inbox for easy access. Just swipe left or tap and hold on the chat, then select “pin” to keep it prominently displayed. And should your priorities shift, you can easily unpin a thread at any time.

Toggle Read Receipts in DMs

Instagram understands the importance of privacy, which is why they’re giving you control over read receipts. You can now choose to turn them on or off for all chats or specific ones. Simply navigate to your account settings, tap on “Messages and story replies,” and toggle the read receipts option according to your preference.

Save Your Favorite Stickers and Upgrade Your Replies

Expressing yourself just got easier with the ability to save your favorite stickers in DMs for quick access. Simply press and hold on the sticker you want to save, and voila! Additionally, enjoy a richer messaging experience with the ability to reply to messages with stickers, GIFs, videos, photos, and voice messages. Just press and hold on the message you want to reply to, select “reply,” and unleash your creativity.

Set the mood for your conversations with our new themes. Whether you’re planning an event or indulging in some light-hearted banter with friends, there’s a theme to suit every occasion. From the romantic allure of Love (soon to be animated) to the nostalgia of Avatar: The Last Airbender, explore our latest themes and infuse your chats with personality.

Why is Meta Rolling Out These New Features?

Meta has seen more success with messaging, which Mark Zuckerberg highlighted as a priority during Meta’s Q2 earnings call in July 2023. 

Meta estimates that around a billion people per week communicate with a business or service account across WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. And roughly 40% of Meta’s advertisers globally (more than 4 million) use click-to-message ads, which redirect people from Facebook or Instagram into one of Meta’s messaging products to chat with a business. 

The company told investors last quarter that click-to-message advertising is “a multibillion-dollar business” for Meta with double-digit year-over-year growth. So that’s why.
